Richard E. "Dick" Heimbach

Richard E. "Dick" Heimbach Jr., 65, of Mifflinburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at 4:40 p.m. in Geisinger Medical Center where he had been a patient since Dec. 28, 2012.

He was born Nov. 27, 1947, in Williamsport, a son of Mary Y. (Fritz) Heimbach and the late Richard E. Heimbach who passed away in 1990. On May 15, 1971, he married Irene E. Richart who survives.

Dick was a 1966 graduate of Mifflinburg Area High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1967. He was a decorated and honored veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts before being honorably discharged in 1970. His family is proud of his service to his country.

He was employed by Yorktowne Kitchens of Mifflinburg for 35 years, working as a supervisor for many of those years. He also worked for Milton Steel Inc., Muncy Homes and Ritz-Craft.

Dick was active in his community. He loved softball and had played for Forest Hill and Stamm's TV fast-pitch teams. He was also the manager of the Country Cupboard softball team for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Union County Sportsmen's Club in Weikert.

He enjoyed attending antique shows and auctions and often set up a booth with his wife at flea markets where he enjoyed visiting with everyone. He also enjoyed playing poker with his friends.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters and one son and their spouses, Brenda and Brian Zerbe, of Millmont, Scott and Angela Heimbach and Sonia Hawkins, all of Mifflinburg; grandchildren, Brooke and Torie Styers, Shayla and Chloe Heimbach, and Kurtis, Jonathan, Alysa and Tyler Hawkins, and Hali and Dalton Zerbe; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Roland and Cheri Heimbach, of Lewisburg, and Benjamin Heimbach, of Mifflinburg; and mother-in-law, Rosanna Richart of Muncy; five sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Randolph Heimbach.
